It is a well known fact that many times builders do not install large enough light fixtures in outside areas. Whether they do not realize the importance of having a well lit yard and outdoor area or if they are simply trying to be economical with their plans, often times the outdoor lighting that is installed is insufficient and needs to be changed or added to.

If you wish to have dimmer lighting on certain occasions it is a good idea to install a dimmer switch so you can adjust the brightness of the lights. It is also recommended that you always leave a light on in your patio at night. You may want to have a couple of lights installed, of different strengths, so you can choose one over the over, leaving the smaller light on at night once you have retired.

You can even purchase patio umbrella lights for decorating around your outdoor patio furniture for parties and get togethers. Remember to match the light with your lighting needs. It is always better to err on the side of buying a light that is slightly larger than you think you will need as you can always install a dimmer later if it proves to be too bright.
