Do you have some garage roofing that needs to be done? Are you going to do it yourself, or hire a professional roofing company? Here are a couple of tips to help you decide.
Re roofing a garage is something that can be done by most homeowners that have some skills in woodwórking and construction. If you are used to putting things together with screws and nails, if you can use tools properly (saw a straight line, drill straight, etc) then you stand a fighting chance at succeeding with a roofing project. It also makes difference what garage roofing material you are using, as some are very difficult to use, while others will almost lay themselves. Things to avoid for first-time roofers are slate and perhaps also clay tiles – and definitely the kind of metal roof that doesn’t come in ready-to-use sheets! Easy materials include roofing sheets of any kind – so long as they are meant to be fastened by means of screws or nails, and are corrugated for easy overlap. Roofing felt can also be manageable, but you do need to know a few tricks here, to make things waterproof. Still, someone you know is bound to have some experience in it.
If you can’t or won’t do it yourself, then just call up some professionals. The one thing better than doing a mediocre job with your own hands, is to pay for a top-notch job done by someone else! You will get so much more enjoyment and value from your garage if the roof is laid properly, since a good roof will last for years. But don’t just hire someone right away. First, invite a few different companies over to look at the job, and get some quotes. You should get a minimum of three roofing quotes from different firms, before deciding on anything. You will want to compare prices and offers, details of the job they intend to do – and you will want to meet with them in person, to get a feel for who you can trust. After all – it is your money and your roof, so don’t let someone you don’t like work on it.
