You may think that decorating your child’s room would be an easy task, after all, you have done it for all of the other rooms in your home. The trouble with deciding on what decor is right for a kid’s room is the fact that the kid may not agree with you. For example, you may want to keep the room simple, with solid colors and plain childrens curtains. You child, on the other hand, may want to adorn their walls with pictures of the various figures that they idolize.
If you are looking for a way to keep your son or daughter’s room looking somewhat presentable but do not want to force them to sleep in a room that they do not like, you will need to compromise. For example, you may want to be able to choose the paint or wallpaper and the childrens curtains but would be willing to allow your child to choose their own bed sheets. Let your child choose which ever bed set they want. Allow your child to choose all of the decoration that will adorn their room. Let them choose the temporary decor that can easily be changed or removed. This will help them individualize their room without completely changing it.
As for the room’s color and curtains, you may want to consider allowing your child to choose from several colors. This way you are in control of what the room looks like but they will feel like they have been part of the decision making process. By allowing your child to feel like they have contributed, they will be far more likely to take care of their room and keep it neat and clean. You know that this is just another room in your house but for a child it is the only room that truly belongs to them. This is why it may be in everyones best interest to compromise.
