Many people would have you think that making great coffee is akin to rocket science. That’s simply not true. You can have great coffee at home, and you don’t have to spend thousands of dollars on the most expensive commercial coffee maker.
If you’re strapped for cash, there are only two things you need to make great coffee at home: a French press coffee maker, and a good coffee grinder. Yes, of course you also need coffee beans and cream or milk and sugar, if those are your desired additives. But when it comes to coffee making apparatus, all you need is a French press and a coffee grinder. The fancy Cuisinart coffee maker that you’re eyeing can wait till you can afford it.
So, why a French press you might ask. Well, the fact is that if you are on a tight budget, the cheapest good coffee maker you can buy is a French press coffee maker. You can get a pretty great French press for about $25.
Yes, you can probably get cheap drip coffee makers and second hand automatic coffee machines for around that price or slightly more. But the quality of coffee those machines will make will simply not measure up to that made by a simple French press. French press coffee is appreciated by coffee aficionados around the world. It’s simple to make and tastes great. If you’re on a budget, it’s the only kind of coffee maker you should consider getting.
Now you’re probably wondering why I’m insisting you get a coffee grinder. Because I am insisting – it’s a must!
The fact is, coffee doesn’t stay fresh very long once its ground, so you should plan on grinding it yourself. Get yourself a burr grinder – blade grinders aren’t that great.
All you need is a grinder and a French press, and pretty soon you’ll have turned into a coffee snob. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!
