When you were in middle school and your teachers taught you mathematics, it was important to know the concept because you needed high grades to pass the course. In college, you won’t even have to take up mathematics if it’s not required in your major. Education majors reveal that some subjects in grade school or high school, such as math, are only required to stimulate the brain and encourage brain activity. Why would you need to master the intricacies of calculus if you intend on being a lawyer?
In the same vein, there are some facets of home improvement that you do not need to learn and how to tile a shower is one of them. People nowadays are busy with their work and family life that they not have time to learn how to personally apply tiles in their bathroom, and who can blame them? I think, as an interior decorator, that learning to tile a shower wall is irrelevant if you want to have a beautiful bathroom. I mean, I don’t know how tile bathroom floor but I have a damn good-looking bathroom. Yesiree.
Top Reasons why You Don’t Need to Learn how to Tile a Bathroom
The top reason why you shouldn’t tile your bathroom by yourself is that, let’s face it, you’re not an expert tiler. It takes a certain level of skill and experience to properly tile a bathroom and an amateur who expects a good job after a few hours of reading instructional articles online with squat experience should not expect anything other than a mess, aside from a miracle. Why would you even risk having a messed up bathroom? Is it because you want to save or you want to have the bragging right of saying that you know how to build a tile shower base? Would it be worth it?
Personally I don’t think it is. After you learn how to do a tile shower, what would you do with it? It’s not like you’re a bathroom designer by profession because if you are then you wouldn’t have problems with tiling in the first place. I think that learning how to tile is a waste of time and energy, since you wouldn’t be able to maximize this new skill on a regular basis. It’s like learning how to ski when you actually live and spend your time in a tropical country.
More Compelling Arguments Against Learning How to Tile a Shower Base on Your Own
If you think about it, do you really have time tile your entire bathroom, let alone learn the tedious task of tiling? Like I’ve told mentioned earlier, you’re probably busy with your job or career so learning how to lay tile in a shower and actually doing it would just be a side note to you for home improvement. What if you get injured during tiling and you are unable to do what you need to do in order to earn a living? What then? You may have saved money from not hiring a person who knows how to set tile in a shower, but you’d lose a month or two’s worth of salary. That would suck.
Let’s recap what we have discussed so far: you don’t know how to do it, you have no time to do it, and it’s a waste of brain space. Would you really like to go through all the hassle of learning how to build a tile shower? And about the price you pay for professionals to tile your bathroom, is it really that expensive? Basically, you’re paying for their experience, skill, and the hassle that you wouldn’t experience because they’re going to do it for you after all. Apart from making life easier for you, you’d be helping out other people in terms of their livelihood so that they’d have money to feed their families with.
Alternatives to Learning How to Tile a Bathroom Shower
If you really want to do something by yourself, why not go with alternatives to tiling? For your bathroom floor, you can go for marine carpet instead. Initially used for boats and yachts, marine carpet would be perfect for your bathroom because it is waterproof and certified non-slip. It is made from a synthetic material called olefin which, apart from the aforementioned, is also heat resistant. In case you were wondering, you can also utilize marine carpeting on your outdoors. The poolside will never be the same with marine carpet.
You can also use water resistant wallpaper so that you can have a stylish room without the effort and hassle of learning how to tile small bathrooms. The bottom line is that time is important and you shouldn’t waste yours. Learning how to make a tile shower floor may be fruitful if you have nothing important to do, but that doesn’t seem to be the case for most people. If you’re one of those individuals who have lots of spare time to kill, by all means, try out bathroom tiling for yourself. Otherwise, if you’re an employee and you come home to a family who needs your attention and support, you better put a rain check on your bathroom tiling education.
